Grant Application FAQs

  • To be considered for funding, applicant organizations must:

    • Be registered as 501(c)(3) public charity in good standing.

    • Operate within Nevada and align with the Foundation's mission of supporting underserved youth and military veterans.

    • Demonstrate measurable impacts and sustainable benefits that align with the Foundation’s vision.

We do not consider grants to universities, religious organizations, or individuals.

  • The Foundation’s grantmaking policy is designed to support:

    1. Initiatives fostering the opportunities for Nevada's youth through programs that demonstrate measurable impacts and sustainability.

    2. Services that support military veterans, enhancing their well-being and integration into civilian life.

The Joanne Owen Foundation is dedicated to empowering individuals and communities through impactful and strategic grantmaking that drives change and fosters resilience. The Foundation will consider:

    • Project or program grants

    • Operating support grants

    • Capital and/or Seed grants

    • Emergency or Crisis grants

    • Planning grants

    • Collaborative or Partnership grants

  • While we are open to grants in any amount, our typical grant size ranges from $5,000 to $50,000.

Grants will not be made in instances where the award would potentially exceed 66% of the organization's total support that year. This is to prevent the recipient organization’s status as a public charity being jeopardized.

  • The Foundation considers grants on a rolling basis. Applicants can apply any time as they become ready or as need arises, without having to conform to a traditional grant deadline. Whenever you apply, you can expect a reply within two weeks of your application, as well as being provided with an ongoing point of contact and status updates once your application is complete.

    The Foundation’s review process:

    • Initial Screening: Applications are screened to ensure completeness and alignment with the Foundation’s mission and eligibility requirements.

    • Evaluation: Each proposal is evaluated based on impact potential, alignment with the Foundation’s mission, and the sustainability of the program or project.

    • Decision Timeline: The Foundation reviews applications on a rolling basis, with final decisions for major grants typically communicated in June of each year. Exceptions for small or time-sensitive grants may be issued any time during the year.
